Sainsbury’s basics range

No surprise that this wasn’t the greatest Scotch egg I’ve sampled, however when you consider its bargain price of 31p, it’s difficult to fault it. The pork sausgmeat was generous and soft, simply seasoned (salt, white pepper and onion), while the┬ábreadcrumbs seemed to have been brushed rather than rolled, the casing lacking crunch or bite, and having a slight starchy quality. The centre egg was fine, surprisingly creamy in fact and of a decent size.

The clean and straightforward packaging promotes the use of British pork and at 31p it’s a snip. For a quid you can bring home three full-size Scotch eggs, and that’s something to cheer about.
